Barcelona’s bike-sharing program launched in early 2007 with 1500 communal bikes. Before long 90,000 had bought a yearly pass and thousands more bikes were on the way.
Bike-sharing has taken off across Europe- from Paris to Parma and Stockholm to Sevilla- as the newest method of mass transport.
With a small yearly fee (24 euros in Barcelona), members can check-out a bike (with the swipe of a smartcard) from one location and return it to another as often as they’d like 7 days per week. In this video, we hit the streets of Barcelona to learn about the magic of Bicing.
