When the builders of Seattle’s High Point community redeveloped the 130 acres, they tore down all the homes and tore up the roads, but not all is new here. They not only salvaged some of the building materials, but they worked to prevent dirt from being trucked on or off the site and instead reused. And many of the trees, mostly dating back to 1942, were saved.
In this video, High Point developer Tom Phillips showed us the construction site where dirt wasn’t being moved far and trees all come with price tags ($104,734 for one Red Oak) to warn builders to handle with care.
