Hundreds of thousands of tons of paper plates, styrofoam cups and plastic bowls are thrown away every year.
Besides contributing to our diminishing landfill space, these disposables rely on non-renewable resources like petroleum (plastic and styrofoam) and “virgin” wood fiber (paper). While non-disposable products are the best choice, there is a 2nd best: biocompostables.
In this video, Aseem Das from World Centric shows us their biodegradable/compostable cups, bowls, bags and take-out containers made from bagasse (sugarcane fiber) and bioplastics (corn, potato). He also takes us out to the company compost bin to check in on how it all breaks down.
