Ali Hewson is a fair trade clothing entrepreneur.
When the mass media began to offer space to environmental themes, corporate social responsibility, fair trade and ethically responsible investment, a new type of entrepreneur was born; far from the executive without scruples, this one tries to sell products while contributing to a sustainability with concrete politics.
Traditional philanthropy laid the foundation for American magnate Warren Buffet, the second richest man in the world, to offer the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by the only man richer than he and his wife, the management of 44 billion dollars to make the world a better place.
Ali Hewson, married to Bono, U2’s lead singer, believes that there are other ways to help develop and create a more sustainable future. Her personal way of viewing corporate social responsibility has led her to create a fashion firm, Edun Apparel, that proves it is possible to sell clothes using adequate materials while offering fair salaries to those who participate in the conception and manufacturing of each product.
Associated with the designer Rogan Gregory, Ali Hewson, applies the same ideas to shirts, jeans and dresses that responsible buyers keep in mind when purchasing products; the line uses only organic products and avoids chemicals, besides assuring that their workers receive a fair salary and good working conditions.
The clothing of fair trade Edun Apparel is manufactured in Africa, India and South America and sold in Europe and the United States.
