WorldHaus is a kit home that can be put together by a family in less than a week. And that DIY labor is one of the ways its creators are hoping to keep the cost of the home below $1,000. They’re also making the home stackable to cut back on shipping costs.
Conceived by Idealab’s Bill Gross, WorldHaus is meant to offer affordable, safe housing for the world’s poor. Working in partnership with banks, micro-finance institutions and local entrepreneurs, the startup is a for-profit venture where homebuyers will have “skin in the game”.
In this video, WorldHaus’ development manager Daniel Gross talks about listening to potential clients in India, his opinions on the problems with earth building and how tiny is big enough for a home.
